In a bid to create a strong bond between the People’s Republic of China and other countries, a series of scholarship programs targeted at international students have been put in place by the Chinese government so as to assist them to carry out research and study in China owned universities.

· Search for information at the right sources
Getting the correct information before applying will save one from unnecessary frustration. The China Scholarship Council (CSC) was founded by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. You can also get in touch with the Chinese university of your choice or the Chinese Embassy in your country.
· Age, nationality and health status
Age for each program varies. Generally, applicants for undergraduate studies must be under 25 years of age and valid documents of their respective legal guardians that are China-based should be submitted by those under the age of 18. In addition, they must have finished high school with good grades. To be eligible for master’s degree studies, applicants must be under the age of 35 with a Bachelor’s degree. As for those applying for doctoral programs, the required age is below 40 years of age with a Master’s degree.
Only applicants that are non-citizens of the People’s Republic of China are eligible to the sponsorship program. The sound health of the applicant is a big factor. Once an application is successful, medical examinations will be carried out by the Chinese government. The record of this examination is filled into the Foreigner Physical Examination Form and must be signed and stamped by the attending physician.
· Scholarship package
International students on scholarship are normally not allowed to work during the course of studying. It should be confirmed if the type of scholarship that is being offered is full or partial. In most cases, full scholarship will cover tuition, monthly stipend based on the student’s program and accommodation which may be in the university dormitory or in form of accommodation subsidy.
· When and where to apply
The application is always opened between January and April, so it is safer to fill and submit the necessary documents as early as possible. Students can apply online at the CSC official website or directly to the preferred institution. · Chinese and English-based program
Applicants for master and doctoral degree studies can opt to enroll for the English-taught program or Chinese-taught program.
